StoreReady

Worth protecting? Get StoreReady.

Choose StoreReady and receive your first month of protection free

Your StoreReady protection will begin only after you have opted in, accepted the StoreReady Terms, completed the StoreReady Application Form and declared the total replacement value of all goods being stored.

The StoreReady fee for your first monthly billing period will be waived. After the free month, the standard monthly fee will apply and will be added to your regular storage payment.

All StoreReady protection during the free month remains subject to the StoreReady Terms, limits, conditions and exclusions.

Additional protection for your stored goods

When you store goods with Storage Society under our Standard Self Storage Licence Agreement, your goods are stored at your own risk and our liability for loss or damage is limited.

You can purchase StoreReady for additional protection against certain types of physical loss or damage while your goods are stored with us. StoreReady is an optional extension to your Self Storage Licence Agreement and is subject to the StoreReady Terms, including the applicable conditions, limits and exclusions.

StoreReady is not insurance

It is not a licensed financial product. Storage Society is not an insurance company and is not acting as the agent of an insurance company or as your agent. We do not provide personal advice about whether StoreReady is suitable for your needs, objectives or financial circumstances.

This page provides a summary only. Before purchasing StoreReady, please read the full Standard Self Storage Licence Agreement and StoreReady Terms. If there is any inconsistency between this summary and those documents, the applicable agreement and StoreReady Terms will prevail.

How StoreReady works

When you purchase StoreReady:

  1. The StoreReady Terms become part of your Self Storage Licence Agreement.
  2. You declare the total replacement value of everything you are storing.
  3. You pay the applicable StoreReady fee after your free first month.
  4. You keep your StoreReady fees and storage account payments up to date.
  5. If your goods suffer physical loss or damage caused by a protected event, the matter will be assessed under the StoreReady Terms.

Where Storage Society is liable under the StoreReady Terms, we may choose to repair or replace the affected goods or provide monetary compensation. The maximum amount available is subject to your declared value, the overall customer limit, specific item limits, the $100 customer contribution, exclusions and all other StoreReady Terms.

StoreReady does not guarantee that every loss will result in payment.

Events protected by StoreReady

Subject to the StoreReady Terms, StoreReady provides protection for physical loss or damage caused by or arising from:

  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Explosion
  • Earthquake, subterranean fire or volcanic eruption
  • Storm, wind and water damage
  • Bursting or leaking pipes
  • Ingress of water or other liquids, unless caused by flood
  • Aircraft or articles dropped from aircraft
  • Moth, insect or vermin damage arising from an external cause
  • Theft involving forcible and violent entry to or from the storage facility or your unit
  • Riot, strike or civil commotion
  • Impact by vehicles or railway rolling stock

Loss or damage must occur while the StoreReady Terms apply and must result from a protected event.

Theft without evidence of forcible and violent entry is not included.

Maximum declared value

You must declare the full replacement value of **all goods stored in your unit**, not only the items you consider most valuable. This is your Maximum Replacement Value.

The maximum available under StoreReady is the lesser of:

  • The Maximum Replacement Value you declared and Storage Society accepted; and
  • $50,000 in total per customer.

Storage Society does not value your goods or advise you what value to select. You are responsible for ensuring your declared value remains accurate throughout your storage period. If the contents of your unit change, please contact us to update your declared value.

personal self storage perth

What happens if you under-declare the value?

If the value you declare is less than the actual replacement value of all goods stored, any amount payable may be reduced in the same proportion.

For example, if your goods are worth $10,000 but you declare $5,000, you have declared 50% of their actual value. If a protected loss is assessed at $3,000, the amount may be reduced by 50% to $1,500, before applying any other limits or the $100 customer contribution.

How replacement value is assessed

Where the relevant conditions are satisfied, repair, replacement or compensation may be assessed on a replacement-as-new basis if:

  • The replacement is not substantially better than the original item;
  • The item was less than 10 years old when the loss or damage occurred; and
  • The item is not household linen or wearing apparel.

For other goods, age, condition, quality, level of use and current market value may be considered. This means the assessment may not be on a replacement-as-new basis.

For documents, liability is limited to reasonable reprinting, reissue or reconstitution costs, including reasonable costs of obtaining essential information where the value declared reflects those costs. The value of the information contained in a document is not included.

If an affected item forms part of a pair or set, liability is limited to the value of the item actually lost or damaged. There is no liability for the undamaged parts of the pair or set.

Limits that apply

The following limits apply in addition to the overall maximum of $50,000 per customer:

Jewellery, watches, precious stones and stamps

$1,000 per individual item and $5,000 in total for the category

Furs, fine art, perfumery, tobacco products, cigars, cigarettes, wine, beer, spirits and vaping equipment

$1,000 per individual item and $5,000 in total for the category

Electronic items

$50,000 in total, subject to the overall customer limit and declared value

Each claim

You bear the first $100 of loss or damage

You must not store irreplaceable goods or goods of a type prohibited under the Self Storage Licence Agreement. Certain valuable or sentimental items may need to be itemised and protected separately through your own insurance.

Goods not protected by StoreReady

StoreReady does not apply to goods that you are not permitted to store under your Self Storage Licence Agreement. It also does not provide protection for:

  • Bullion, bonds or financial instruments
  • Data records stored on memory sticks, hard drives, CDs, DVDs or similar media
  • Money, coins, currency, deeds or securities
  • Motor vehicles, heavy machinery, caravans, aircraft, boats, watercraft or motorcycles
  • Flammable liquids, gas, oil, petrol, LPG, fuel, corrosive chemicals or commercial bulk consignments of dangerous goods
  • Food or perishable items unless securely packed against vermin
  • Livestock, living creatures or plants
  • Explosives, combustibles, firearms, weapons, ammunition, radioactive materials, biological agents, toxic waste, asbestos or other hazardous substances
  • Goods that emit fumes or odours, are environmentally harmful or create a risk to other goods or people
  • Portable battery chargers, power banks or similar portable power sources
  • Lithium-ion batteries exceeding 160Wh, unless built into otherwise permitted goods, unable to be removed and free from visible defect or fault
  • More than five e-scooters, e-bikes, e-skateboards or similar battery-powered vehicles unless their batteries have been removed and are not stored at the facility
  • More than ten laptops, tablets, children’s toys or similar items containing built-in batteries
  • Illegal, counterfeit, smuggled, unlicensed or unsafe items
  • Unique items whose value cannot be assessed financially

This is a summary. The full prohibited-goods and excluded-goods provisions are contained in the Self Storage Licence Agreement and StoreReady Terms.

Causes of loss or damage not protected

StoreReady does not apply to loss, deterioration or damage caused by or arising from:

  • Leakage from a receptacle or container belonging to you
  • Your own acts
  • Flood, including floodwater seeping from outside the premises, action of the sea, waves or tidal wave
  • War, invasion, hostilities, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power
  • Confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction or damage ordered by a government or public authority

  • Communicable disease, or the fear or threat of communicable disease

When StoreReady starts and continues

StoreReady does not apply automatically. Protection starts only when:

  • You have chosen to opt in;
  • You have accepted the StoreReady Terms;
  • You have completed the StoreReady Application Form;
  • You have declared the total replacement value of your stored goods; and
  • Storage Society has confirmed your StoreReady arrangement.

To remain protected after the free first month, you must pay the StoreReady fees by their due dates and continue to comply with both the StoreReady Terms and your Self Storage Licence Agreement. A material breach, including failure to pay the applicable fees, may lead to termination in accordance with the agreement.

Your responsibilities

You must:

  • Provide complete and accurate information when applying for StoreReady;
  • Declare the full replacement value of all goods in storage;
  • Update the declared value if the contents or value of your stored goods changes;
  • Comply with the Self Storage Licence Agreement and StoreReady Terms;
  • Keep all required payments up to date;
  • Store only permitted goods;
  • Take reasonable care of your goods and pack them appropriately;
  • Notify Storage Society immediately when loss or damage is discovered;
  • Provide evidence of ownership, value and damage when requested; and
  • Report a break-in or theft to police and obtain a police report.

Knowingly providing misleading, incorrect, false or fraudulent information, including exaggerating a loss, may result in the StoreReady Terms not applying, termination of StoreReady and recovery of costs incurred in dealing with the matter.

How to report loss or damage

You must notify Storage Society as soon as you discover any loss or damage, or when you remove your goods from the facility, whichever occurs first.
